The 2nd meeting on the project "Strengthening the legislation of Azerbaijan in the fight against tobacco" took place in the PHRC (PHOTO)

On November 30, 2016 in the Public Health and Reform Center (PHRC) of the Ministry of Health conducted a regular meeting on the developing of proposals to strengthen the existing legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the fight against tobacco. Tthe first such meeting took place at the end of September, at what time the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) was established for advisory services and analysis of the current tobacco legislation. The activity of this group is to make proposals to bring local tobacco legislation in accordance with requirements of the FCTC. Representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Taxes, the Office of the  Ombudsman, the Azerbaijan Medical University, the Public Association "Youth Development", the Youth Organization "Reliable Future", the State Agency for Citizens' Services and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ASAN agency), Youth Organization  "ASAN Volunteers", Social Association "LAYF", Public Association for Youth Education "Həmrəy", as well as representatives of the media participated in the event. At the event ideas on the proposed changes in the legislation, as well as plans for the second quarter were discussed. T. Musayev, head of the Department of Population Health of the PHRC, noted that such goal-oriented meetings will be held regularly and thus close contacts will be established between the relevant institutions and with the media on this topic.
