Annually around 108 million blood donations are donated worldwide. In Azerbaijan, availability and timely access to blood components and blood products in treatment of hemophilia and thalassemia is very important and thus increases the demand for blood donation.
On June 6, 2015, at Hilton Baku Hotel the 2nd Azerbaijani Young Blood Donors Forum was held, in order to help promoting voluntary and non-remunerated blood donation in Azerbaijan. The Forum was co-hosted by Public Health and Reforms Center (PHRC), Scientific Research Institute of Hematology and Transfusion named after B. Eyvazov and its Central Blood Bank, Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, Iranian Red Crescent Society, Blood Donors Association, “Support for Hematology Development” PU and Azerbaijan Thalassemia Federation. The Forum, dedicated to the World Blood Donor Day – 14 June, was supported by Hilton Baku Hotel. Government and NGO representatives working on blood donation development in Azerbaijan, as well as regular blood donors participated in the Forum.
