Regional conference on promoting rights towards better sexual and reproductive health held in Sofia

Dr. Jeyhun Mammadov, Director of the Public Health and Reforms Center of Ministry of Health (PHRC) and Dr. Jamila Gurbanova, Acting Director of the Scientific-Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology represented Azerbaijan at the Regional Conference which took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 27th to 29th May, 2015. The conference brought together ministers of health, healthcare officials and experts from East Europe and Central Asia (EECA) region countries. The Regional Conference jointly hosted by the UNFPA EECA Regional Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bulgaria was focused on the topics related to reducing inequalities in sexual and reproductive health, health promotion, and diseases prevention.

An overview of the implemented work and achievements was given and priorities in reproductive health and reproductive rights were set at the conference. At the same time, in order to achieve better sexual and reproductive health outcomes in the EECA region, the importance of strong inter-country cooperation in the region was noted, and recommendations were developed.

In conclusion, Sofia Declaration of Commitment was unanimously adopted by the participating countries.
