A Natural Family Planning Center, Washington, D.C., presented a Teen STAR curriculum at PHRC
The international “Teen STAR” Program is a unique teaching method applying practical approach. The program calls adolescents to address reproductive health issues in the context of adult responsibility, and to have their own and critical way to look at the issues of reproductive health. The program financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been successfully practiced in more than 30 countries in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa.
On 13 February, 2015 a presentation about “Teen STAR” program was delivered by the Natural Family Planning Center, Washington, D.C., at the Public Health and Reforms Center of Ministry of Health (PHRC). Nancy Russell, the representative of the Natural Family Planning Center, provided general information about the program. The presentation was focused on possibility of bringing the Teen STAR curriculum program to Azerbaijan. As part of this pilot project which might be jointly implemented by Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education new strategies in instructing high school students about reproductive health will be practiced. Awareness raising issues will be carried out in line with the local traditions. The program is expected to help students, their parents and teachers to get well informed of the issues in reproductive health and to foster parent-child communication about reproductive and sexual health. While the training physiological aspects of reproductive performance and basic skills in interpreting this knowledge to adolescent students will be offered.
