Educational campaign dedicated to May 31 - World No Tobacco Day held
Public Health and Reforms Center (PHRC) of the Ministry of Health in cooperation with Surakhani District Executive Power and Ellab Diagnostic Center have organized an educational campaign dedicated to May 31 - World No Tobacco Day. The purpose of the campaign was to raise awareness among the population about negative health effects of smoking and other harmful habits.
Head of Surakhani District Executive Power Aziz Azizov, Head of Health Communication Department of PHRC Laura Guliyeva, cardiologist of Ellab Diagnostic Center Jala Abbasova emphasized the importance of the measures implemented in the direction of protecting the health of the population in our country.
It was noted that, increasing number of people suffering from noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular system diseases in the world is closely related to a number of factors. Most noncommunicable diseases are the result of four particular behaviours (tobacco use and other harmful habits, physical inactivity, overweight and obesity, unhealthy diet.
In order to prevent the main risk factors of diseases, the participants were encouraged to choose a healthy lifestyle.
Within the frame of the campaign, doctors, cardiologists, public health specialists gave relevant recommendations to the participants and they were invited to preliminary examinations (measuring of height, weight, blood pressure and pulse).
Note that, World No Tobacco Day was launched by WHO in 1988 and this day is celebrated on May 31 each year to raise awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco use and to encourage people to quit smoking. Mass events and campaigns are organized every year in order to educate the population about the dangerous effects of smoking in many countries of the world, including Azerbaijan on this date.
