Webinar on “The impact of climate change on health: The need to act now!” organized
Public Health and Reforms Center (PHRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and WHO Country Office in Azerbaijan have jointly organized a webinar on “The impact of climate change on health: The need to act now!”.
The purpose of the virtual discussion, organized within the framework of the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World" and the European Public Health Week was to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on health among health professionals and the public.
Health politicians, public health experts, and community members of all ages participated in this discussion, which was conducted on the eve of Azerbaijan preparing to host COP29.
Representative of WHO in Azerbaijan and the head of the Country Office Dr. Hande Harmancı, director of PHRC Gahraman Hagverdiyev made an opening speeches and spoke about the impact of unstable weather and climate change on the environment.
International and local experts spoke in the panel discussions moderated by the representative of the WHO European Office, public health expert Emilia Aragon De Leon. The webinar also featured presentations on the impact of unstable weather and climate change on the environment by Dorota Jarosińska - Programme Manager, Living and Working Environments WHO European Centre for Environment and Health WHO Regional Office for Europe, Patricia Nayna Schwerdtle - representative of Heidelberg University, Nazrin Baghirova - lecturer of the Institute for Development and Diplomacy at ADA University and Samir Mehdiyev - head of the Health Technologies and Telemedicine Department of PHRC.
The panel sessions continued with extensive discussions and sharing of useful information and resources.
