An event dedicated to the importance of breastfeeding was held at Baku Vocational School No.3
A week of "Breastfeeding in Azerbaijan" was held at the Public Health and Reforms Center of the Ministry of Health with educational events. The next event was organized on October 4, 2019 at the Baku Vocational School No. 3 on the initiative of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and with the support of PHRC, Baku State Center for Professional Training on Public Works and Services.
Opening the event, Kamila Aliyeva, deputy head of the Department of Family Issues of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, emphasized that medical education on the benefits of breastfeeding plays an important role in protecting the health of population, especially for the younger generation.
Head of Health policy and planning department of PHRC Shahla Mirzazade spoke to an audience of young girls, informing future mothers about the invaluable benefits of breastfeeding for the growth and development of children. She reported that breastfeeding is the foundation for a healthy start from the first days of infancy: "Breastfeeding is especially important during the first 6 months of life of infants. The protein, fat, carbohydrates, enzymes, vitamins and minerals are perfectly balanced in breast milk to meet all the requirements of the first 6 months of the life of babies.”
The expert informed the participants that breastfeeding helps to prevent diarrhea and pneumonia resulted in infant mortality, while in breastfeeding mothers, the risk of diseases such as ovarian and breast cancer, which are the most lethal in women, is reduced.
At the end of the meeting, questions of participants were answered and also informative materials prepared by the PHRC were given to participants.
