PHRC hosts roundtable on the results of the initial monitoring on Baby Friendly Hospital standards conducted at Baku city maternity hospitals and maternity departments
A roundtable on the results of the initial monitoring on Baby Friendly Hospital standards conducted at Baku city maternity hospitals and maternity departments was held at Public Health and Reforms Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan on June 25, 2019. Opening an event with an introductory speech director of PHRC Gahraman Hagverdiyev stated that, nutrition is a powerful factor that regulates the health of children, their harmonious development.
“In this regard, breast milk is the best food for babies. Important measures are being taken in our country for propagating breastfeeding among mothers. This issue is set out in the state programs adopted in various spheres of health, as well as "Azerbaijan National Strategy for the prevention of Non-communicable Diseases 2015-2020”, he said.
Health and nutrition officer at UNICEF Azerbaijan Tohfa Jamilova underlined importance of promoting breastfeeding among population, as well as employees of maternity hospitals.
Head of Azerbaijan Office of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Hande Harmanci said that, our main goal is to increase breastfeeding worldwide.
Chief Neonatologist of the Ministry of Health Rustam Huseynov spoke about importance of breastfeeding for babies’ development and benefits of breastfeeding for mothers, appreciated efforts made to restore "Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative".
Expert Sabina Ahmadova and methodist physician of Monitoring and analysis department of PHRC Zumrud Kazimova acquainted participants on results of monitoring held by PHRC among 124 women registered at 12 maternity hospitals in Baku.
Head of the Project coordination department of PHRC Sabina Babazade emphasized the importance of extensive awareness-raising activities conducting for the purpose of promoting breastfeeding and gave information on the works done in this area together with UNICEF, WHO.
