PHRC hosts press conference on "July 28 - World Hepatitis Day"

On July 27, 2018, was held press conference on "July 28 - World Hepatitis Day" at the Public Health and Reforms Center (PHRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Head of the Projects' Coordination Department of PHRC Sabina Babazade made an opening speech at the conference and noted that, the aim of this date established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) is to inform world’s population about hepatitis viruses and encourage effort against this relentless disease.

According to S.Babazade, patients are provided with necessary medicines and treatment in our country, as well as, within the frame of prophylactic measures educational materials prepared and published by PHRC are regularly distributed to the population.

Director of the Scientific-Research Institute of Lung Diseases, Deputy Chairman of Scientific Medical Council of the Ministry of Health, as well as the Committee on Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of B and C hepatitis Hagigat Gadirova gave detailed information on all types of hepatitis viruses, morbidity rate and medical measures taken in this area: “The total number of appeals submitted to the Committee during the last four years (before July 30, 2018) was 8936. 57 percent of them are men, 43 percent are women. The cumulative number of treatment decisions is 6266, and the total number of patients currently receiving treatment is 1153”.

Gastroenterologist - hepatologist of Educational - Therapeutic Clinic of Azerbaijan Medical University Ilhama Amiraslanova noted that everyone could be infected with hepatitis: "Everyone has a risk to infect with hepatitis. But, it does not mean that you can’t protect yourself against hepatitis. It is necessary to follow hygiene rules, especially use personal hygiene instruments (toothbrush, shaving and manicure set) individually.

At the end of the conference, questions of the Mass Media were answered and educational materials on “İİV və HEPATİT B, C – bunları bilmək vacibdir!” ("It is important to know..! - HIV and hepatitis B, C") prepared by the PHRC were been distributed to the participants.
