Monitoring was carried out in maternity hospitals and maternity departments of Baku city according to the standards of the Baby Friendly Hospital UPDATED: 27 JUNE 2019

Monitoring was carried out by the Public Health and Reforms Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan (PHRC) in maternity homes and maternity departments of the Baku city according to the Baby Friendly Hospital standards.

During the monitoring, a survey was conducted in 12 maternity institutions of Baku city among a total of 124 women who breastfed and did not breastfeed their babies. The data obtained were analyzed.

On June 25, 2019, a round table was organized at PHRC on the results of monitoring. The director of PHRC, Gahraman Hagverdiyev, the head of the UNICEF Health and Nutrition Program in Azerbaijan, Tohfa Jamilova, the head of the World Health Organization country office in Azerbaijan, Hande Harmanci, the chief neonatologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Rustam Huseynov, and other experts spoke at the round table. It was reported that important measures are being implemented in our country to spread breastfeeding among mothers. This issue is reflected in the adopted State Programs for different areas of health care, as well as in the " Azerbaijan national strategy for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in 2015-2020". It was noted that the "Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative" has been implemented since 1991. In 2015, this initiative was re-evaluated and the process of improving its implementation in different countries, including Azerbaijan, was started.
