On the Day of the World Memory of Road Traffic Victims, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon issued a message
Road accidents as a public health problem affect all sectors of society. Economic injuries due to road accidents lead to expenditures for the provision of long-term medical care, to the possible death of a working member of the family, and to a decrease in profit as a result of disability. Therefore, this problem is discussed at a high level and solutions are being sought to overcome this problem. As a token of attention to this day on November 20, the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is celebrated all over the world.
In this regard, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon addressed the world community with a message calling on UN member states, international agencies, civil society organizations, business leaders and the public to fight this problem.
"Every day, more than 3,4 thousand people lose their lives on the roads of the world, many of them are young people and women," reads the Secretary General's written message. According to him, it is time to step up work to prevent road deaths, "as well as countless injuries." "To do this, we need to improve the quality and safety of roads and cars, combat excess speed and drunk driving, and encourage people to use seat belts, motorcycle helmets and children's chairs," the administrative head of the organization said.
It should be noted that Azerbaijan also participates in activities aimed at solving this problem. The Public Health and Reform Center of the Ministry of Health throughout a year conducts educational activities among the population, especially among young people, and distributes thematic educational materials prepared by the PHRC.
This year, on November 20, the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, the PHRC developed and distributed to relevant partner institutions educational material entitled "Dedicated to the Memory of Victims of Road Traffic Accidents"
