Findings of “Assessment on evidence-based medicine and use of clinical protocols” discussed

On September 7, 2015 a roundtable on “Assessment findings on evidence-based medicine and use of clinical protocols” was held at the Public Health and Reforms Center (PHRC) of Ministry of Health. The roundtable was attended by PHRC staff, health experts and head physicians of Baku medical institutions participated in the survey. 

The survey was conducted in May-June 2015 in Khatai, Sabail, Yasamal, Khazar, and Nasimi districts of Baku, in the cities of Ganja and Mingachavir, and in the rayons of Khizi, Qakh, Lankaran, Qusar, Aghdam, Shamakhi. A total of 1342 physicians from women’s health centers and primary healthcare centers (including pediatric) participated in the survey.

The survey results showed that 60.7% of the physicians were aware of evidence-based medicine, 79% of the respondents said they regularly applied clinical protocols in making clinical decisions. 38.6% of the respondents noted the need for the development of new clinical protocols in Azerbaijani language for primary healthcare providers. Concerning the barriers in the use of clinical protocols and evidence-based medicine, 45% of the respondents said there was a lack of trainings for physicians, 33.5% noted the insufficiency of the clinical protocols in Azerbaijani language and 24.9% said the existing clinical protocols were out of access.
