New immunization record system to be introduced

"Through the use of "Child's Immunization card" parents can easily obtain the children’s vaccination records available at "Electronic health card".

On April 23, 2015 a training on the use of new immunization record system was conducted at the Public Health and Reforms Center of the Ministry of Health (PHRC).

The member of executive group on the project implementation Lutfi Gafarov spoke about the aim and objectives of the training held as a part of Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization’s (Gavi) ‘Health systems strengthening in Azerbaijan’ project with the support of the Health Informatization Center of the Ministry of Health: "To develop better monitoring of maternal and child health services the project aims to strengthen the health information system. Launch of the new immunization record system will allow centrally enter child’s vaccination records". 

"The 2011 Demography and Health Survey findings reveal that parents don't have enough information about children vaccination schedule and other vaccination related issues. As part of the project, to ensure effective monitoring of children vaccination and timely notify parents about childhood vaccinations, HIC has developed special immunization software program. The software allows obtaining children vaccination records from the "Electronic health card” and printing as "Child's Immunization record card". PHRC designed special covers for these cards. The covers contain educational information on childhood vaccination, and along with the "Child's Immunization record card" will be distributed to parents in public health centers. The new system will enable parents to get easy access to children’s vaccination records”, L. Gafarov added.

Discussions covered the difficulties in vaccination data entry in children's health centers. Proposals and recommendations on how to overcome these barriers were shared.

As part of the European Immunization Week a special training in the new immunization registry system was held were representatives of primary health care centers, computer operators, statistical services officers and representatives of the National Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology presented. The participants were trained on how to use the new immunization record card system.

European Immunization Week is held annually by the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe). Since 2007, Azerbaijan has taken part in the European Immunization Week. The tenth anniversary of European Immunization Week to be celebrated on April 20-25, 2015.
