Research is being conducted to study the effectiveness of vaccines among healthcare workers
The II phase of the study on the evaluation of the effectiveness of vaccination against the new type of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection among health workers is being conducted in our country. This large-scale study is carried out by the Public Health and Reforms Center (PHRC) with support of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the World Health Organization (WHO).
It should be noted that since April 2021, with support of WHO, our country has been studying the effectiveness of vaccines against COVID-19 disease with the participation of 1,500 medical workers (both doctors and medical staff, as well as administrative and technical staff of hospitals). The study is being conducted simultaneously in many European countries. At this stage of the study, it is supposed to determine how durable and stable immunity is after natural infection and 2, 3 or even 4 doses of vaccination. Morover, given the possibility of increased cases of influenza in addition to COVID-19 during the autumn and winter months and the likelihood that people exposed to the two infections will suffer more severe illness, the second phase of the study will also examine the prevalence and incidence of flu.
We express our deep gratitude to the health authorities and managers of health care facilities who helped to successfully conduct this study in our country, as well as to the participated volunteers.
