Students informed on “Thalassemia disease. Consanguineous marriages (Cousin marriages) and case of inherited blood disorders (IBD)”
Public Health and Reforms Center (PHRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan continues outreach activities for the protection of the health of population.
The next educational event held with support of Public Health and Reforms Center (PHRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and by the initiative of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan was organized at Baku Vocational Lyceum No.17 on April 17, 2019.
Opening the event deputy director on an educational sphere of Lyceum Aliyar Musayev noted that, such educational events play an important role on building a healthy society.
Head of family problems department of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Gulnara Mammadova emphasized the importance of awareness-raising events conducted nationwide with PHRC on gender equality, drug addiction, domestic violence, early marriages, non-communicable diseases and etc.
Methodist Physician of the Health care policy and planning department of PHRC Latafat Dadashova made a presentation on “Thalassemia disease. Consanguineous marriages (Cousin marriages) and case of inherited blood disorders (IBD)” and urged young people to be careful: “Children of Consanguineous marriages may have an increased risk of genetic disorders, particularly if their parents both carry similar and sick genes. One of the most common hereditary diseases is thalassemia. Thalassemia is an inherited and passed from parents to children through genes. It is desirable to avoid such marriages to prevent thalassemia risk”.
At the end of the event, there was conducted exchange of opinions and students were acquainted with educational materials prepared by PHRC.
